Objective
Description
Validate genetic susceptibility of pigs
undergoing Pipestone’s F18 ETEC model.
F18 ETEC Challenge
Pigs used in the study were DNA 600 x PIC Camborough. Pigs were bled at
7 days of age for fucosyltransferase-1 (FUT1) genetic susceptibility by DNA
sequencing (FUT1 PCR testing conducted at Vaxxinova laboratory). Pigs were
then randomly chosen from each representative population and strati昀椀ed by
gender and weight. Pigs were weaned at 24 days of age and transported to RB6
(BSL2).
Each pig received 10 ml of 1x109 inoculum:
• ISU VDL accession 2023033116 (LT,
Sta, STb, Stx2, Stx2e, F18(pilus), PAA
(adhesin).
• Via oral gavage four days after
placement (28 days of age).
A/A = FUT1 homozygous resistant (n=59).
A/G = FUT1 heterozygous susceptible (n=60).
G/G = FUT1 homozygous susceptible (n=61).
