“You have to have a family willing to put up with your schedule. It is because
my wife, Lisa, took care of the rest, that I am able to do this job at all. I am
probably a little spoiled,” Bryan shares.
He lights up when talking about the people in
agriculture. “You go to meetings and someone says,
‘I’m just a pig farmer.’ I’m like—no, you feed the world.
What’s more honorable than that?”
For Dr. Myers, recognition has never been the goal. “I
never thought I did anything spectacular or different
than anybody else,” he said. “I just went out every day
and did what I thought was right.”
In 2025, that quiet dedication was recognized when
he was named Swine Practitioner of the Year by the
American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV)—a
meaningful honor from his peers.
“Awards are great,” he said, “but honestly, seeing my
clients succeed, expand, be pro昀椀table—that’s what
really matters.”
Even after decades, he still 昀椀nds pride—and humor—
in his work. “Somebody asked me once what I did
today. I said, ‘Just another day stamping out disease
and pestilence, keeping the food supply safe for all
mankind,’” he said with a laugh. “We joke about it,
but it’s true. Whether you’re the vet, the sow farm
manager, the power washer, or the guy giving
shots—you’re all part of feeding people. Be proud
of that.”
